History of Escravos and the Plant

Starting from Warri, go east past the Forcados River. In about another 40 miles, you'll meet the Escravos River. It will eventually empty into the Bight of Benin. "Escravos" named by the Portuguese, means slaves. This was a major route in bringing Africans from the interior to the trafficked abroad.

The economic value of the river is persistent, as it is the location of the Escravos Gas to Liquid Plant. The major importance of which, utilized Fischer Tropsch synthesis to tranform Nigeria's amply natural gas resources into liquid fuel.
